Essex Teacher Training is a large provider of Initial Teacher Training in the Eastern Region. We offer high quality school-based training routes in Primary, Secondary and Special schools.

Training Routes


This programme is a 10-month full time route to teaching. Partnering with many schools across Essex and its surrounding borders, this programme leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

Assessment Only

If you are currently working as an unqualified teacher in a UK school, then this route to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) could be for you. If you meet the entry criteria you will enter an assessment period without the need for further training.

School Direct

This programme is in partnership with groups of schools across Essex and its surrounding borders. This 10-month programme is available as a salaried and a non-salaried route. The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) is included in the tuition fees but an optional extra for salaried trainees.


The salaried programme is offered as both full time and part time. You apply direct to our lead schools through gov.uk. Enter our provider code of E75 into the training provider box and all our School Direct courses will be visible. For further details visit our School Direct programme page.

Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship

Please note due to capacity we currently do not have any Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeships available.


This programme is in partnership with schools across Essex. This is a 12-month full time programme. Once you meet Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) you are required to pass an End Point Assessment to complete the apprenticeship.
